What is an eSIM?
eSIM, short for Embedded SIMs, is a new generation SIM card that is integrated directly onto the motherboard of a mobile device. eSIM differs from regular SIMs in that regular SIMs can be inserted and removed from a device to switch to another device, while eSIM cannot.
Are there any other differences between eSIM and regular SIM?
A regular SIM is a hardware component that enables your mobile device to perform calls, texts, and messaging. Whenever you want to change your subscription, or your SIM, you have to physically remove the SIM card to make the switch.
Though eSIMs work just like regular SIMs, they have been digitized with today's telecommunications technology. It can be downloaded and installed with just a few taps on your device, this eliminates the complicated process of removing and installing your physical SIM cards.
As mentioned earlier, both eSIM and regular SIM work on the same principles. However, the key difference is that regular SIMs can be physically inserted and removed, while eSIM cannot.
This is the most significant difference, besides considerations like setup and usage, technology support, etc. This makes purchasing and using eSIM convenient, without requiring users to go to a mobile carrier's retailer to obtain a traditional SIM card.
